BYD Sealion 7 vs Sealion 6

BYD has made 5 big improvements in the Sea-lion 7, compared to the Sea-lion 6, which are as follows. First, is the upgrade in the battery size. The sea-lion 7 has a 45 percent bigger battery than the sea-lion 6. Expect a fifty kilometer improvement in the real-world EV range, going by the typical 6 kilometer per kilowatt hour efficiency, observed in all the 2-ton plug-in hybrids out there. One of the reasons why BYD has done this, is to one-up, on the upcoming, MG HS plug-in, which has a 22 kilowatt-hour battery. The second improvement in the sea-lion 7, is the power output of it's motors. The front wheel drive model is 50 h-p more powerful, than the sea-lion 6. Whereas the All-wheel-drive model is a whopping one-fifty h-p more powerful. This has resulted in a blisteringly quick acceleration of 4.7 second to hundred kph, an improvement of 1.2 second over the sea-lion 6. Expect the rear wheel drive, to be 1 second quicker than the corresponding sea-lion 6 as well. The weight has gone up by around two hundred k-g. But that is justified by the larger dimensions of the sea-lion 7. Last but not the least, there's a big improvement in the interior of the sea-lion 7, with a bigger infotainment display and more premium finish. So how much have all these upgrades, impacted the price? The best estimate is around twelve thousand Aussie dollars. BYD has priced the sea-lion 7 surprisingly high in China. Or the other way to look at it, is that the sea-lion 6 is priced quite reasonably, in China! Either way, the sea-lion 7 can be expected to start at 50 grand and go up to 65 grand in Australia. The pure-E-V version of the sea-lion 7 already retails at a similar price range. When it comes to the UK, the sea-lion 6, known as the seal u dm-i, is already available, for just 31 thousand quid at the moment. Expect the sea-lion 7 plug-in to start at 40 grand. That would be five grand less than the pure-EV model. The info about the sea-lion 7 plugin is still trickling in, on the web. Stay tuned for more details, over the next few weeks. In the meantime, let's have a look at how the sea-lion 6, fares against the rising star, Haval's H6 GT.
