Silverado 2500 HD vs BYD Shark 6
The BYD Shark 6 is mighty close to the mammoth Silverado twenty-five hundred HD, in 3 main parameters. First is the performance. The Shark might be 40 h-p less powerful than the V8 Silverado, but it is also a ton lighter than the Chevy.
This makes it over 1 second quicker to a hundred kph compared to the Silverado. Not surprising, given how the BYD has humiliated the Ranger Raptor in a drag race. Check out the link in the pinned comment to watch that drag race.
Now, Silverado fans out there will definitely argue that the Silverado is not meant for traffic light Grand Prix. But then it begs the question, what is it meant for? With a stratospheric price tag, that is three times that of a Hilux Work-mate.
The Silverado is definitely not bought by the tradies out there, as a work truck. It is bought as a status symbol, even an intimidation machine perhaps. And that it does exceedingly well. It is a 21 feet long monster, which makes the 18 feet long Shark, pale in comparison.
Even in terms of the width and height, the Chevy simply towers over the BYD. But once you open the Chevy's doors, it starts faltering. The dashboard design feels ancient, compared to the Shark. The central touchscreen, the sunroof and the heads-up display are all, noticeably smaller, than the Shark.
The quality of materials and the craftsmanship, is also quite disappointing, compared to any German SUV retailing for a similar price tag. When it comes to payload and towing, you need to have a heavy vehicle license to make use of the full spectrum of Silverado's abilities.
Else you are stuck with lesser payload capacity than the Shark, although the towing capacity is still a ton more than the Shark. The tray is positively humungous. It is 2 feet longer and 1 foot wider than the Shark's. So purely in theory, it is a better work truck than the Shark.
In practice, the Silverado is one of the ultimate manifestations of Freud's peanut envy. Add a canopy on that tray and you can actually look down upon the Range Rovers and G Wagons of this World, as if they are small cars.
Other than that, there seems to be no logical reason to buy the Silverado twenty-five hundred. But you might be surprised, if BYD ships their Yangwang U8 to Australia, which they are already pondering over. It almost matches the Silverado in terms of dimensions, as well as weight!
On top of that, it will really rock your boat, with its twelve hundred horsepower, catapulting this colossus to a hundred k-p-h, in half the time of the Chevy. Funnily enough, you might even end up saving a few bucks, on the sticker price, compared to the Silverado.
