Xpeng G6 vs BYD Seal U DM-i Sealion 6 Plugin Hybrid

The Xpeng G6 is better than the BYD's plugin hybrid, called the Sealion 6 or the Seal U DM-i, except for 1 problem. And that problem has nothing to do with the car itself. It is a problem, of the charging infrastructure. As of today, we don't have abundant, ultra-fast DC chargers, spread across our nation. But petrol stations? We have them everywhere! And this is where the sea-lion 6, prevails over the Xpeng. It has a good 18 kilowatt hour battery, giving it 80 kilometers or 50 miles of range. That is adequate, for 90 percent of the drivers needs, 90 percent of the days, in a year. So the question is only about the remaining 10 percent of the driving. Should it be on petrol, or on electricity? And right now, the answer is not electricity. Even the Xpeng G6, which is based on a cutting-edge, 800 Volt platform, still requires, 20 minutes to add 300 kilometers of range, provided you find a 300 kW charger. Spending hours of your precious time, on your road trip, finding a fast charger, hoping there's a slot available and waiting for the car to charge is a hassle. It is acceptable only to the real EV nerds or influencers out there! For the rest of us, a 2-minute fuel-stop is much more important, than virtue signaling our pure EV, from a moral high ground! On top of that, the Sea-lion 6 also has a few more advantages over the Xpeng. First, is the all-wheel-drive powertrain, giving it better traction over mud, sand and snow. Second, is the performance advantage, thanks to slightly higher power output. Third, is the price. The top-end, Sea-lion 6 premium, is a good two thousand aussie dollars cheaper, than the base Xpeng. While up in old blighty, the top end, Seal U Design variant, is still a hundred quid cheaper, than the entry level G6. The Xpeng does claw back, some lost ground, thanks to a 150 liter bigger boot. Both cars have excellent interiors, which can put almost any other car, retailing at this price point to shame. And when it comes to features, the BYD has a few extras, that you don't get in the cheapest G6. Check out the pinned comment for a detailed comparison of equipment and tech. Last but not the least, both Xpeng and BYD have level 2-plus, self driving capability, waiting for your politicians to give them a green light. Plus, Xpeng is already in the process of upgrading the G6 to a pure-vision system, which is just as good as Tesla's latest FSD 13.2. BYD also just unveiled, their God's eye systems, which are bound to match Xpeng & Tesla in a few month's time.
