BYD Dolphin vs Atto 3

The top-end BYD Dolphin, is without doubt, the better value proposition, over the Atto 3, in 5 key aspects. First is of course the pricing. Thanks to the latest price-cuts, the Dolphin is now available for 30 thousand Aussie dollars. But that's for the poverty-spec variant, which you must avoid, at all costs. More on that at the end of the video. Spend a hundred bucks per month more, and go for the premium variant. The equivalent variant of Atto 3, costs eight thousand dollars more. And the only thing you get for those eight grand is 95 liters of extra boot space. Everything else is the same. Starting with the powertrain, the top-end models of both cars, get a 200 horsepower motor and a sixty kilowatt hour battery. Now, there is a smaller battery variant in the Atto 3's range, but it has a couple of disadvantages. It's price is three thousand dollars more than the top-end Dolphin. But, even after paying the extra money, you get around sixty kilometers less range than the Dolphin. Plus the smaller battery, has a lower charging and discharging rate. This causes two more problems. It cannot charge as fast as the Dolphin. And it cannot send as much current to the motor either, resulting in slower acceleration than the Dolphin. On top of that, it has several features less than the Dolphin premium, like heated seats, a wireless phone charger, automatic rain sensing wipers, etc. It is definitely inferior value for money, compared to the new Dolphin. If you go for the top-end Atto 3, you get the same battery as the Dolphin, and with it, the similar performance & fast charging ability. However, you definitely get a couple of more electronic toys, than the top-end Dolphin. Those are Electrically Adjustable seats, Powered tailgate and a 3 inch bigger touchscreen than the Dolphin. That is still not good enough to justify an 8 thousand dollar price premium though. Now, if you are on an absolute budget, then the base-Dolphin might seem quite tempting. But remember, that it gets less than half the power of the top-end model. Its range is also a hundred kilometers less than the premium variant. And it charges even slower than the base Atto 3. Lastly, it loses out on a lot of features compared to the Dolphin premium as well. It does not get a panoramic glass roof, no heated seats, no wireless mobile charger, its mirrors don't fold electrically and there's no rain sensing wipers. All of which are present in the Dolphin premium. That being said, even the base-variant does get some impressive features, like 7 Airbags, Alloy Wheels, 12.8 inch touchscreen Infotainment etc. Refer the complete list in the pinned comment.
