BYD Atto 2 vs Atto 3

The BYD Atto 2 is a bit disappointing, in 5 key aspects, especially given the lofty expectations set by BYD. First is the price. The Atto 2 starts at 30 thousand euros in France, for the base trim. Of course, the absurd import duties, are responsible for 8 thousand euros out of that. Otherwise the price would have been less than 22 thousand. For 30 thousand euros, it offers just 45 kilowatt-hour of battery and 176 horsepower motor. Coming to the UK, The price is going to be 30 thousand quid, thanks to UK buyers getting a 5 kilowatt bigger battery, than rest of Europe. But, for the exact same price, BYD themselves sell a 60 kilowatt hour battery, and two hundred horsepower Dolphin in the UK. Who in their right mind, would like an Atto 2, with a smaller battery and a weaker motor, than the Dolphin, for the exact same price? On top of that, the Atto 2 also charges 23 kilowatt slower, than the similarly priced model, of the Dolphin. The Atto 3 on the other hand, only offers 60 kilowatt hour models in the UK, and they start at thirty eight grand. Down under, in Australia, the Atto 3 is available, with a smaller, 50 kwh battery pack. It is priced at 40 thousand aussie dollars. Even in Australia, a Dolphin with 10 kilowatt hour bigger battery than that, is available for three thousand dollars less. When the Atto 2 comes to Australia, it will be priced at thirty seven thousand AUD. Regardless of that, the premium variant of the Dolphin will remain a superior value for money alternative, thanks to a longer range & faster charging speed. Overall, this comparison between the Atto 2 and 3, is just throwing up one answer, which is neither. Agreed that the Atto 2 has more conventional interior than the Dolphin, or even the Atto 3, but that alone cannot compensate for the lack of range, performance and charging speed. Even the boot-space is just 60 liters more than the Dolphin, and most surprisingly, there's hardly any upgrade in the features. At least the addition of ventilated seats, was certainly expected from BYD, in the Atto 2. The real reason behind old tech, is that the Atto 2 is not really all new. It was introduced in China last year, where it is known as the Yuan Up. And it is a really cheap car in China, which explains its lack of new features. In fact, the Atto 2's price, starts at three thousand yuan lower, than the Dolphin, in its domestic market. Moreover, it offers higher powered motor, that the Dolphin as well. This clearly means, that the Atto 2 is cheaper to produce, than the Dolphin. Then why is BYD trying to push for excessive margins, when they ship it overseas? If they would have priced the Atto 2 a little bit cheaper than the base-Dolphin, it would have become a roaring success.
