Nio ET9 vs BYD Han L 2025
The new BYD Han has really beaten, Nio's already impressive ET9, in three big attributes. Stay tuned, for a quick show down, between the two Chinese behemoths.
First, is the expected price tag of the new Han, which is just over forty thousand dollars! Which is less than half of that of the Nio.
Second, is the Han's jaw-dropping performance! BYD has announced that the flagship variant, will be powered by a five hundred and eighty kilowatt motor at the rear, plus a two hundred and thirty kilowatt motor at the front.
This will give the Han, a neck-breaking acceleration, of two point seven seconds to hundred kph. The Nio, which is no slouch, will still be a second and a half slower, than the Han L. BYD has also, caught up with Nio, with a 925 volt architecture for the Han.
Giving it just as good, rapid charging capability, as the Nio. The Han is slightly smaller in size than the ET9. But, it is definitely not so small, that Nio can justify a seventy-thousand dollar price premium! The difference in length, is less than a foot, while that in width is just two inches.
Afterall, the Han L is a bigger car than the Tesla Model S. No wonder then, that whoever buys a Nio ET9, will have to digest a good fifty percent depreciation in one year. When the industry makes such a rapid progress in months, how can the EVs be expected to retain their value in the market?
On the other side the globe, Elon is having sleepless nights. He knows that cars like the new Han, can destroy Tesla's sales, if they cross the pacific ocean. That is why he has been quietly pushing for higher tariffs on Chinese cars, behind the scenes.
However, when it comes to exports, we are bound to see a drop in Tesla's numbers, and there's not much Elon can do about it. Even robo-taxi can't help Tesla survive more than a few years. BYD will definitely unveil their own cyber-cab in a few months.
Whatever Tesla sells, BYD can sell at half the price. Last year alone, BYD sold almost half a million Seagulls, which is available for less than 10,000 dollars, in China.
Whatever hardware BYD needs to add, to make it fully autonomous, is not going to push its price beyond twelve to thirteen thousand dollars. As for Nio, it is not going to make a dent in BYD's sales, by touting its lead in battery swapping stations over BYD.
Nio has to upgrade the E.T-nines powertrain, as well as reduce its price by half, if not more. Let's not forget, the Oracle of Omaha, Mr. Warren Buffett, still holds a chunk of stake in BYD. In spite of Eelon offering him to switch sides, by inviting him to invest in Tesla, he has not budged an inch!
