BYD just dropped a bomb on Tesla. The new Han L, simply decimates the Model Y, in five crucial attributes. Stay tuned, to see where the Model Y, already needs an urgent upgrade. First, is the charging speed. The BYD Han car charge at roughly four times the speed of the Model Y. Now, before we open up the topic, of Tesla's low-voltage architecture, lets take a moment, to appreciate BYD's inexpensive hack of giving their car, two charging ports, on either side of the vehicle, to charge simultaneously, from two charging guns, at the same time. BYD knows, that even if it's vehicles are capable of charging at a rate of 600 kilowatts, it will take a decade before most chargers are upgraded to deliver that much power. Till then, a BYD Han owner, can at least make the most out of the situation, whenever he is able to get two empty charging slots, next to each other, and charge at twice the speed of the Model Y.

On the other hand, with medium and heavy duty trucks, going electric in a few years, we might see mega-watt chargers, sprouting up across the major highways. But the Model Y won't be able to make good use of those chargers, as Tesla decided to continue with a 400-volt architecture, while BYD went straight to 945-volts. End-result is that the BYD will add three fifty kilometers of range in 10 minutes, while the Tesla does 180. Second reason is the range. The Han L, will have a real-world range of roughly five-hundred and fifty kilometers, which is around hundred kilometers more than the Model Y. Third and most important difference, is the insane difference in price. The entry-level Model Y, has been launched at thirty six thousand US dollars in china, whereas the all-wheel-drive variant is priced at forty one point five grand. The top-end Han is expected to cost a thousand USD less than the the all wheel drive Tesla. But the difference in performance is, unbelievable! The Han has a mind bending, eleven hundred horsepower. The Model Y doesn't even have half of that. This makes the Han, a second and a half quicker than the Model Y. This, in spite of the Han being larger than the Model Y, in all the dimensions as well as half a ton heavier than it. Even the interiors of the new Han are now a touch more luxurious than the Model Y. It is clear as day, that Tesla went only for a nose-job and a bit of nip and tuck, for the ageing Model Y. Whereas, BYD has gone all the way, with a spanking-new platform, for the Han, and stamp their authority over Tesla, as the biggest manufacturer of electric vehicles, in the World! In fact, it was the BYD Han, which sent a chill down the American car makers, and started the whole anti-china legislation in the automotive sector. There is no way that president Trump is ever going to allow his voters to lay hands on the new Han!
