BYD Tang L vs Tesla Model Y Juniper 2025

The are 5 major aspects, in which the new BYD Tang L, is way better than the Model Y Juniper. First and foremost is the pricing. The starting price, of the new Model Y, for the low-end, rear-wheel-drive variant, is 36 thousand US Dollars in China. The Tang L will be slightly more expensive that the base Model Y, at 41 thousand dollars. But the base model, of the Tang L electric, has six hundred and seventy horsepower! Even the long range, all wheel drive Model Y, is two twenty six hp, less powerful, than the base Tang L. And yet, it is a thousand dollars more expensive in China. That being said, it is worth noting, that the difference in performance is negligible. Plus, the Tesla, is armed with the AI four hardware, capable or running FSD 13.2. It has the best self driving capability, seen so far on any vehicle available in the market. Will BYD be able to match the Model Y on autonomous driving? In all probability, it might take them a few years to get as good as Tesla. On the other hand, is the regulatory body in your jurisdiction, going to give a green light to Tesla's unsupervised self driving? If yes, then the Model Y is clearly the better alternative for you. If not, then you are definitely wasting a lot of money on an awkwardly proportioned and under-specced vehicle, compared to the Tang. Even after the cyber-cab inspired nose-job, the Model Y remains the ugliest car, among Tesla's model range. In spite of Model Y's massive success, being the bestselling car in the World, last year, Elon remains hesitant, to invest into a new monocoque structure, which looks like a real SUV. That leaves Tesla, vulnerable to an attack, from any of its ever more challenging competitors, just like BYD. Now, the Tang L, may not have the prestigious badge that the Model Y has, but it makes up for it with its sheer size! Not only is it bigger than the Model Y, but is also bigger than the Model S, in all dimensions. Even the interiors are no less luxurious and well appointed, compared to the new Model Y. And before we forget, BYD has two aces up its sleeve. First, is the eleven hundred horsepower dual-motor variant, which can put many a supercars to shame. But more importantly, the entire Tang L model range, is now based on a 945 volt architecture, giving it an astounding charging capability of three hundred and fifty miles in ten minutes. That is almost three times quicker than the Model Y, which continues on the ageing, 400 volt platform. BYD has also added a simple innovation, of charging ports on both sides of the vehicle, that can charge the car simultaneously. This is crucial, given most of the charging stations, don't have chargers rated over 300 kilowatt. In such cases, the BYD owners can simply plug in two charging guns, from adjacent chargers, and cut their stoppage time by half. Watch and learn, Elon!
