Because, like it or not, the prestige of a Mercedes SUV, definitely has a proven track record, of being perceived as high-status, for decades. As for the whole, de-carbonization virtue signaling, the GLC hybrid, has an impressive, eighty-seven kilometers of pure-battery range. That is more than adequate for daily usage of ninety percent of us, for at least three-hundred days, every year, without visiting a gas-station, simply charging at home, overnight. Plus, the Merc has a fast charging capability of five-thousand kilowatt equivalent. Since it is able to re-fuel, in one-tenth of the time it takes, to recharge a so called fast-charging EV, by simply filling up its fuel tank in two minutes flat! It doesn't have a third-row of seats, but if you really want to make long road-trips, you would be much better-off renting a conventional mini-van anyways, instead of wasting precious hours of your holidays, searching and waiting for public chargers.
